Hello everyone

As promised, I've added some more tips on help you get to sleep if you're having troubles.  Again keeping in mind that medication isn't always the best answer if you can't get to sleep.  Here we go.

Dr. Rex Morgan

  1. Do not look at the clock, obsessing over time will make it more difficult to sleep.
  2. If you are still awake after 15 to 20 minutes, go into another room.  Read or do a quiet activity using dimmer, but not too dark light levels.
  3. Avoid drinking a lot of fluids after 6 PM so that sleep is not disturbed by the need for urination.
  4. If distracted by a sleeping partner, moving to the couch or spare bed for a couple of nights may be helpful (but don't forget to reassure your partner that you're just having trouble sleeping and that this is not permanent).
  5. Exercise regularly but finish exercising at least 4 hours before bed time.
  6. Do not take naps during the day (as nice as naps are they confuse your body's internal clock).
  7. Do NOT take alcohol to help you sleep and ESPECIALLY if you are using a medication to help you sleep whether prescribed or over the counter.  This one is VERY important.

Ok, that's about it for now, but stay tuned, as I'll be adding more to this series in the future.  Also look in our links section for some websites that specialize in sleep problems.  Thanks again
