Hello everyone,

     People ask me frequently about some good ideas for healthy sleep habits and in the next 2 articles, I'll lay out some of my recommendations for you.  Keep in mind that medication is not always the best way to go if you're having trouble sleeping.

  1. Get into a routine, go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends and vacation, your body will love you for it.
  2. Consider your bed as a place for sleep and lovemaking only, so don't read or watch TV in bed as it is distracting to your body.
  3. Keep your bedroom dark, cool, and quiet which is conducive to a good and restful nights sleep.
  4. Avoid caffeine after 5 PM or if shift working, at least 5 hours before sleep.
  5. Spend an hour in the sun each day.  The best time is early in the day if this is feasible for you.  Take precautions against overexposure by wearing protective clothing and sun screen.
  6. Take a hot bath an hour and a halt to two hours before bed time.
